Press Release and details
Acclaimed Irish artist Mark Baker will be exhibiting his portrait paintings for the first time in London at 3 Bedfordbury, Covent Garden, London WC2N 4BP from Tuesday Oct 25th to Monday Nov 7th. Open daily: 12-8 (closed Monday 31st October).
Featuring portraits of ‘Biker Boris’ Johnson, JFK, Russell Brand (All in Jest), Muhammad Ali, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, U2, Phil Lynott, and many others, this promises to be an outstanding exhibition.
The exhibition is accompanied by the launch of a new book 'mark baker portraits' from art-n-stuff press, in what promises to be an outstanding exhibition of this young up and coming artist's finest work so far.
Painting and sketching since he was a child, Mark’s talent was recognized as a child prodigy when, aged 5, he won a competition to have a painting hung in the National Art Gallery, Dublin. Now 26, Mark is already the most celebrated portrait artist in Ireland.
Mark’s work is instantly recognizable for its extreme detail, powerful expression, and likeness to the subject. Working from his life passions of music, sport and film, Mark was a fan of U2 and Thin Lizzy from a young age. Paintings have already been approvingly signed by Debbie Harry, Liam Gallagher, Dave Grohl (ex-Nirvana and Foo Fighters), Bono and The Edge (U2), and Philomena Lynott (mother of Thin Lizzy’s Phil Lynott).
Mark’s portrait ‘Johnny Cash - In Black’ was a finalist in the Irish Art Awards 2007. Mark has exhibited in many group exhibitions and alongside artists such as Ronnie Wood and Niall O'Loughlin and was part of the Hotpress Phil Lynott Exhibition in Dublin in April 2011 and at a special exhibition backstage at Oxegen ‘11.
